New approaches in neuropalliative care: TANNE project presents results at the 97th DGN Congress

tanne - dgn kongress 2024

The TANNE project coordinator, Dr. Christiane Weck, a specialist in neurology and palliative medicine at Agatharied Hospital, presented key results of the project at the 97th Congress of the German Society of Neurology (DGN) in Berlin from 6th to 9th November 2024.

The TANNE project, which stands for ‘Telemedical responses to neuropalliative enquiries in real time’, is funded by the G-BA Innovation Fund. Its aim is clear: to improve the medical and nursing care of neurological palliative patients and job satisfaction in SAPV teams through the use of telemedical solutions. Despite challenges in the recruitment of patients due to various reasons and a lower number of cases than planned, the TANNE consortium successfully created a broad information base for deriving the medical and economic effectiveness of the new care method. The most important results include:

  • The transferability of the care method to various other diseases and disease stages, both neurological and non-neurological.
  • The possible reduction in avoidable hospital admissions.
  • Patients can be cared for at home without interruption even under special circumstances, such as contact restrictions during COVID.
  • The general acceptance of the form of care by users in hospices and SAPV teams, including patients and relatives, is high.

The TANNE project has been completed and the new form of care is currently undergoing final evaluation by the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA).
