On the 24th of May 2019, a research report was published on frontiersin.org about the first pilot study of the telemedicine project “TANNE – Telemedical Answers to neuro-palliative demands in real time”. The telemedicine network consisting of experts in neurology from Agatharied with specialized teams for outpatient palliative care at the patient’s home demonstrated a successful combination of existing resources.
The MEYDOC® telemedicine solution for secure video communication solution is used to provide expert care to the neurological palliative patients in their home environment. One of the main advantages of using telemedicine solutions in the palliative care is that they are flexible, multidisciplinary and cost-effective.
The pilot study, which was funded by the Free State of Bavaria, approximately 100 neurological patients suffering from Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis or brain tumors were treated.
The project should comprehensively improve the outpatient care of palliative care patients with neurological diseases. The project was awarded with a sponsorship prize by the German Society for Palliative Medicine. The official start of the project is the end of 2020.
