ESOC 2026: Improving stroke care sustainably

2026-esoc-03

The 12th European Stroke Organisation Conference (ESOC) took place in Maastricht, the Netherlands, from 6 to 8 May 2026. With over 4,000 participants from more than 90 countries in attendance, the conference once again confirmed its position as a leading European forum for innovation in stroke medicine.

At ESOC 2026, MEYTEC GmbH presented tried-and-tested as well as new telemedicine solutions to make modern stroke care more efficient. Particular focus was given to the combination of telemedicine and innovative technologies for early stroke diagnosis. MEYTEC is collaborating with the New Zealand-based company Wellumio to implement portable MRI solutions in clinical practice.

The AXANA® portable MRI system provides measurement results in just a few minutes. Thanks to innovative PGFM (Pulsed Gradient Free Mapping) technology, this novel MRI-based procedure makes biomarkers available for the differential diagnosis of strokes significantly faster than conventional scanning methods. The aim is to make safe, MRI-based stroke diagnostics available at the pre-clinical stage, eliminating radiation exposure and enabling on-site diagnosis. This could facilitate its future integration into Mobile Stroke Units (MSUs), telemedicine networks, and air ambulance services.

As a partner of the PRESTO Group, an international organisation specialising in pre-clinical stroke treatment, MEYTEC also used ESOC 2026 to engage in intensive discussions with leading experts in pre-hospital stroke care, further strengthening its international networks in the process. A particular highlight was the presentation of the ‘Certificate of Appreciation’ to Klaus Fassbender from Saarland University. This award recognised his visionary contribution to the development of Mobile Stroke Units.
